“Somebody Has Been Tumbling My Bed!”

Remember Goldilocks and the Three Bears? If you enjoyed this childhood story as much as I did when I was young, you will recall that Goldilocks wandered into the home of Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear while they were out and got herself into quite a bit of mischief. Goldilocks tested everyone’s bowl of porridge until she found the one that was just right. Then, Goldilocks sat in everyone’s chair until she found the one that was just right. Finally, Goldilocks headed upstairs where she slept in the bed that she found to be just right.
Maple reminds me of Goldilocks. At the beginning, Maple slept on the bare floor. MM thought the tile flooring might be just a tad too hard and cold for Maple, so he introduced some hand towels into Maple’s crate. We soon found ourselves, however, washing towel after towel because Maple kept soiling them. Finally, I came across a pretty gingham-patterned chair cushion while shopping at Daiso (S$2) and the lightbulb in my head flickered.
That day, I happily purchased the cushion and was eager to return home to show Maple her new ‘bed’. At the first sight of the cushion, Maple thought it was just another toy and began to bite, chew, tug, paw, and dig at it. [Note: The cushion contains synthetic cotton batting, which can be a hazard if swallowed. Hence, it is important to regularly check the cushion for loose threads and/or holes, as well as to supervise the dog during play.]
I was heartbroken thinking that Maple didn’t like the small gift I got for her, and that she would rather tear it into shreds than to snuggle and curl up on it. Days passed on by and Maple would not sleep on the cushion. I was about to remove the cushion altogether when MM told me that, one afternoon, he noticed Maple positioning herself on the cushion and falling asleep while curled up like a round furball. The next few nights, Maple started to use the cushon like an over-sized pillow by resting her head on it. Now, Maple would sometimes swagger to her crate and plop down on the cushion after a strenuous day of activities. *sigh* I guess Maple has finally found her ‘bed’ to be just right!
